Why can’t we make all smokers, obese people, and junkies ineligible for any medicare/medicaid assistance?
So there can be more funds for those who want good health.
Smoking = a choice
Being fat = a choice
Being a drug addict = a choice
I think people who make these choices should have to fund their own private insurance policies so they don’t drain the public funding for those who need and deserve it.
I personally am not a big supporter of public funding for medical care. But if we must have it, shouldn’t it only be for uninsured kids, old people who can’t afford it, and the working poor?
Stupid also collects so you need to add that to the list. That will free up much more money.
Shame on you Johnny! Being a drug addict is not a choice. It is a disease. People do not choose to be addicts and once they become an addict they are in a living hell.
You just wait, you think Bush is violating your civil rights, when Universal Heath Care is in the government will control every aspect of your life.
No smoking, no salt, no motorcycles, no skateboards, no caffeine, no cell phones, etc.
Being old- a choice.
These old people very easily could have offed themselves long before they were in need of medicare. I know that I’ll be putting a bullet through my head on my 55th birthday. It’s pretty much just a down hill slide from their anyway.
Lot’s of things are a choice, and most things that happen to us are at least indirectly a result of a choice we made, or did not make. Were do we draw the line? I’m not over weight, a smoker or a drug addict, but I drink about 6 drinks pre week, and a few times a year, I’ll find myself drunk after binge drinking. Am I choosing to abuse alcohol? Should I not be eligible? What about coffee addicts who drink 5 cups per day; that isn’t good for you. Nobody who has ever had a health problem can say that it defiantly doesn’t have something to do with a choice they made, vegetables they didn’t eat, days they chose not to exercise.
Drug addition is a Choice!!! So is eating, smoking and drinking.
You need to add boozing along with the others you have mention.
My question would be how are you going to monitor this.
So a sportive who break is leg don’t have health right cause it’s his choice to pratice sport ?
Why don’t we just eliminate them altogether.I mean then in your perfect world you can only hope that some day your thyroid goes out of whack then you too can be forced to pay a high price. You seem to be fairly thoughtless. That is a choice too!Being stupid is a choice too!
On the money………did someone acutally say that being a druggie is not a choice???????wtf???? so I guess they come out of the womb with a $20 sack nowadays!!!!!!
Great idea!! Right after we take all illegal aliens off them.
You are discriminating based on people’s choices of lifestyle.
You ask a seemingly innocent question, but at the root of your query is a fundamental disagreement with one of the founding principles of this country: that each person has the right to pursue their own happiness, whether or not people like you agree with them or not.
With that said, I do not support socialized medicine. But, even if I did, I don’t know that people like you should decide who DESERVES it and who doesn’t.
What u just described doing would cover about 99% of America
u might want to add being stupid and arrogant to your list that way you cover all of America including yourself
not all people who smoke get cancer. not all fat people are fat because of overeating. and for drug addicts? are you aware that prescription drug users can also become addicted?
you might also say this:
people who don’t work should not get public funding. it’s a choice not to work. shut up.
Because our PC society doesn’t like to hold people responsible for the choices they make.
Smoking, being fat, being a drug addict describes many of our lawmakers. That’s why your proposal to cut medicare/medicaid benefits for these people will never pass.
Smoking = a choice? Not when cigarette makers push their addictive product to children, knowing that once past adolescence, very few people start smoking.
Obesity = a choice? Not when food manufacturers and fast food outlets push products with hydrogenated fats and chemical additives like MSG which are deliberately included for their addictive qualities.
Drug addiction = a choice? Not when Madison Avenue and our society as a whole push pills and booze as the solution to all our problems, including poverty, mental illness, and lives full of stuff but empty of meaning.
Being judgmental = a choice? Yes.
Hey you’re forgetting a few aren’t you?
What about motorcycle riders? people who drive cars for that matter? joggers? (lots of heart attacks, joint problems, etc) heart disease? (the leading cause of death in the US, most of time caused by life choices) people who sky dive? scuba divers? mountain climbers? people who drink diet drinks? people who take a wide variety of different prescription drugs? people who live by power lines? power plant workers? and the list could go on and on and on. In the end you could put almost everyone on ‘your list’.
Where do we end this? Should people decline from marrying someone with red hair fair skin as this trait is more prone to skin cancer for fear of their offspring also developing cancer? A choice that could cost money. To start what you are suggesting is limitless to the amount of conditions that could come into play. Corporations of today want to deny you insurance coverage if you eat foods other than the ones THEY approve. Be careful what you wish for, the list of do don’t could become greater than what one would imagine. Why not close those companies making cigarettes? Why not close the fast food outlets? Why not make the war on drugs real instead of just paying lip service to it while people in high places get rich-er? Why, MONEY! Cigarette manufacturers WANT you to smoke! Money! Insurance companies WANT you to smoke, insurance cost more. Money! Hospitals WANT you to get sick. MONEY! Drug companies WANT you to get sick need drugs. MONEY! All aspects of illness translates into profit, don’t loss sight of this highly profitable, money making scheme. All the outcry against these things, yet they are very profitable protected under our government. Does our government represent the people or the corporation????
