Smart respite for your households clogged drainage

What can you do if you are stuck with a clogged drainage? Well the easiest way to unclog your bathroom drain pipe is to use a waste pipes plunger. The whole process of unclogging a blocked drainage is pretty simple and straightforward. What you don’t want to do however is to vigorously pump up and down like a jack hammer. The most effective procedure to adopt is to cover the drain completely with the bell-shaped head of the plunger and push down gently, then come up quickly and forcefully creating suction. The suction created with the upward movement will pull back the clog that is stuck in the drainpipe of your tub, sink or toilet. Note that some tubs and sinks are fitted with overflow holes that must be closed with a sponge or wet towel before proceeding with the plunger.

Instead of using your plunger you can apply commercial products containing chemicals that can dissolve the clog, for instance concentrated drains cleaner. First attempt to clear the drainpipe with a plunger, only then should you try the chemical solutions as they can be hazardous for the novice. Leave the chemical for a few minutes so that it loosens the blockage, and then use hot water to rinse out the drain, taking care not to splash yourself. Use rough clothes that cover your body fully as things could get a bit mucky and some of the strong chemicals may spill on you and burn exposed skin. If you plan to use the plunger after the application of chemical to remove the remaining debris, then eye protection is essential because the chemical laden water may back-splash on you and burn. Just be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid any unnecessary problems.

Another thing that you can do, if the plunger doesnt remove the blockage, is to use the pliers and pipe wrench to open the nuts that hold the P-trap in place. Keep a bucket and towel to deal with the mess that will follow. Chrome plated fittings can be protected from scratches by taping up the teeth of the pliers or wrench; that should also give you a firmer grip on the nuts of the trap. Once the P-trap is removed, check the trap for any solid materials obstructing the pipe opening. If the plunger, the chemical or trap removal does not help, then the blockage could be much deeper in the pipework.

To unclog the toilet, you should use a toilet auger to get at these deep seated stoppages. If the problem lies in your tub or sink, a plumbers drain pipe snake will come in handy. drain pipe snakes are designed to reach deep down into the far reaches of your narrow pipes. By twisting the adjustable handle to drill into the clog, you then pull the obstruction up and out of your drainpipe. When you are sure that all the clogging material is cleared, replace the P-trap and test the drain with hot water. Make certain the whole thing is tightly closed and check for any leakage in the P-trap and ensure that the water flows well.

You need to take professional drainage clearance help in case you are unable to unclog the drainpipe by any of these methods. There are some incidents that cannot be resolved by the common householder such as clogs in the soil stack or the sewer service near tree roots or even a broken pipe caused by age or pipe corrosion brought upon by nature or some “mysterious reason”, at these times contact a good drains pipes engineer.
