Plugged Drains pipes – What an Annoyance!.
You might notice the clogged up drainage when you are in shower and suddenly the water level starts rising up. How disgusting! the drain is obstructed . Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Clearing clogged drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drainage make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). But the fact is that sooner or later, a bathroom drainpipe is going to become blocked or suffer a blockage. So you should know how to unclog them, well in advance.
Why do drains get plugged, what is the underlying cause?.
Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain and the pipes are the main cause. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already choked drainage. As the mass grows, it restricts the free flow of water, and the drainpipe eventually becomes choked. So, if you are finding the water isn’t running freely through your drainpipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a blockage in your plumbing system.
How to unblock Your drainage.
Time to roll up your sleeves and tackle the clog – here are a few tips on what you can do to unclog your bath or sink drain. The first thing that you need to do is to remove the plug of your sink or bath drain pipe. Look beneath the sink, you may have to remove a nut that secures the plug or in some cases you can just directly pull out the stopper by the u-bend. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the stopper right at the drain pipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.
You might be able to see the reason for the blockage after you have successfully taken the plug out. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drain. Try to get hold of the mass and pull it out. If the mass is located in a region, where it is difficult for you to grasp it and pull it out, then use a wire clothes hanger to dig into the clump and pull it back through the drainpipe pipe. As soon as the clog is removed, water will start flowing freely through the drain pipe.
If the clog cannot be pulled out with the help of the hanger, then you should use other blockage-clearing methods. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated blockages is a drain pipe plunger. Ensure that you have placed a wet rag on the overflow drainpipe – this will produce better suction pressure from the plunger. Then put the plunger over the drain pipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. You may find that this suction-push action of the plunger loosens the obstructed debris down the pipe and the accumulated water now drains freely.
However, if this method also fails to have any affect you might have to use some sort of chemical cleaner. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.
