Plugged drains can be flushed away

Plugged drains can be flushed away

What can you do if you are stuck with a clogged drainage? Well the easiest way to unblock your bathroom drain is to use a waste pipes plunger. Using a drainage plunger is relatively simple to do. But the last thing you want to do is be too aggressive and pulse to quickly. To ensure that the plunger works effectively, wholly cover the drain with its bell-shaped head, and gently push it down once, and immediately come up, so that suction is created. A minor clog can be pulled up and out of the sink or drainpipe through the sucking action of the plunger. overspill outlets are present in few sinks and tubs, so the outlets should be covered with a wet towel or sponger before using the plunger otherwise air can enter and reduce the impact of your actions.

Chemical unblocking agents can also be used to dislodge or dissolve clogged matter. But it would only be recommended to resort to using chemicals after you have tried fixing the problem with a waste pipes plunger. Run the chemical into the drain pipe and allow it to work for about 30 minutes before flushing the drain pipe with hot water. Wear proper clothes while dealing with chemicals, remember the strong chemicals can fall on your clothes and spoil them so be careful with that. If you plan to use the plunger after the application of chemical to remove the remaining debris, then eye protection is essential because the chemical laden water may back-splash on you and burn. The chemical product comes with specific manufacturer’s directions; it is important to read and follow them carefully.

If both the plunger and chemicals fail to alleviate the clogging problem you have, then you can try unscrewing the nuts on the P-trap with pliers or a pipe wrench to gain access to the pipe. Now this is going to get messy so be prepared with a towel and bucket to clean up the mess. Use an electrical tape to encircle the jaws of your wrench so that you can get a better grip on the pipes and also maintain their chrome finish without scratching them. Once you have removed the P-trap you can inspect the trap thoroughly for any blockage. But in case you are unable to find any blockage, chances are that the problem lies deep down between the soil stack and the trap and you will need additional tools.

In case of a clogged up toilet, you can apply a toilet auger. With a bathtub or sink, however a drain pipe snake should be used. drain snakes are designed to reach deep down into the far reaches of your narrow pipes. By twisting the adjustable handle to drill into the clog, you then pull the obstruction up and out of your drain pipe. The P-trap should be reconnected once the obstruction is cleared, slowly flush the drainage with hot water to confirm that there is no obstruction and that there are no leaks. Make certain the whole thing is tightly closed and check for any leakage in the P-trap and ensure that the water flows well.

After trying all of these methods and you still have a water flow problem, it is time to contact a drainage contractor or local plumber. If the blockage is stuck in the soil stack or the sewer service pipe has collapsed either due to age or because of natural causes, then you can do nothing much expect for relying on the professional waste pipes company to solve your problem.
