How do I get a bathroom drain unblocked?

We have an outlet pipe from the bath and sink that have very little angle to them and keep blocking up. Nothing seems to completely cure it and we will replace them ASAP.

But in the mean time we have used several commercially available unblockers on this bathroom drain and used caustic soda in every possible strength combination and in conjunction with a plunger.

Now out of ideas!

Has anybody got any other ideas to keep the bathroom drain clear until we can replace it next year?

Natural remedies IF possible, although dynamite and flame throwers MAY soon be considered : -)

Many thanks

For a stubborn bathroom drain use some Hydrolic acid and wash it down.

caustic soda has always worked for me, but seeing as you have tried this i would go to a hardware shop and buy some brick cleaning acid (that is what my step dad used on his) but bewarned it is strong stuff and needs to be rinsed through well after use.

Maybe try a Pango (thats what they call them here). Its a small gun that you pump up with air, block the waste outlets and fire it down the plug hole. The blast of air pushes the blockage through. Other than that have you tried putting bicarbonate of soda down the plug then pour vinegar on top followed by boiling water – it fizzes like mad but clear the pipes.

Cillit Bang drain cleaner…use 1/2 a bottle, leave for twice the suggested time then run warm water down for 5 mins.

OR bicarb (1 cup), then 1/2 pint of vinegar…stand back it can be very volatile.

You could also get a hair trap for the plughole.

I had the same problem with a bathroom drain a couple of years ago,and got a gadget from QVC,a plunger with a can of compressed air attached, which was good for 20 shots, you place the plunger over plug hole, cover it with about 3 inches of water, block the overflow with a cloth and press the button, mine only took 1 shot, never had the problem since.

Your best bet may be to make certain the chemicals are out of the line and use a plumber’s snake

Hydrochloric acid (spirit of salts) is very effective. Pour it direcly down the drain and leave for about an hour. Beware of fumes!
