Clogged Up Drainage – A Major Worry!.

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. Yuck! A choked drainpipe. Or while brushing your teeth by the sink, all of a sudden the sink starts to fill up. The prospect of sorting obstructed drains out is not a happy one; it can be messy and time consuming. However, clogged drainage are something that cannot be avoided; every household has to cope with it sooner or later. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unblock bathroom drains.

First, let’s look at why drainage become stopped and what are the main causes of a stoppage.

Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain and the pipes are the main cause. Residue from daily use of shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleaners and other products tends to further aggravate the sticky build up. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drainage get completely stopped. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unclog the drainpipe.

Some effective ways to unclog your bathroom drainpipe are listed below.

If you happen to have a blocked sink or bathtub, there are some steps you can take to clear up the passage ways and create a normal flow once again. The first thing you will have to do is take out the plug of the blocked sink or drain. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. With respect to the bath, the screws have to be loosened to remove the stopper or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.

You might be able to see the reason for the blockage after you have successfully taken the stopper out. Whilst messy, it is nothing, but a mound of hair and fragments around the components of the bathroom drainpipe. Clear out as much of the obstruction as possible. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the blockage or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. There is a good chance that by removing this mass of material the problem will be rectified and your water will flow smoothly.

However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. A very useful tool is a drain plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drainpipe, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Then put the plunger over the drain pipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. When you finally release the plunger, any trapped water should immediately be drained.

You may have to turn to a chemical solution, if the plunger fails to do the job. However this should be your last resort because the chemicals used can harm your bathroom fittings and accessories, they are corrosive.

If all else fails, get a professional drains service in.

If the above methods fail to solve your choked drainpipe problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Plumbers should have equipment that can help unclog drains quickly and easily. It might cost you some money, but a plumber’s expertise can give quite a relief with this type of messy household problem.
